Why choose Wix and Progressier for your PWA?
Is Wix the right tool for building a PWA? Honestly, probably not. If you're considering what platform to use, I'd recommend using either Webflow or Bubble. However, if you're already using Wix, it's still possible to turn your Wix creation into a Progressive Web App with very little effort.
That being said, if your Wix creation is a website — not a web app — you probably don't need to bother making it a PWA at all.
How can you create a PWA with Wix?
Sign up to Progressier and activate your free trial. When prompting to create a new PWA, select Wix in the popup menu. Simply enter the URL of your Wix app. Progressier will automatically generate a unique installation page for your app. An installation page looks like this: install.page/covid. That one link allows to install your app on every platform. That's what we call Universal Installation.
Can you send push notifications with Wix?
Yes! Once you've signed up for Progressier, you also get a complete solution for push notifications. Progressier prompts users to authorize notifications when they visit your app. The software then tracks subscriptions and allows you to notify all your users by push notification from our dashboard (and/or API, alternatively).
Which PWA features does Wix support?
Let users install your app on their Android device. It works exactly like a native app.
Your PWA is installable on iOS and iPad OS. It will open in its own standalone window. Progressier shows users custom instructions.
Make your app a standalone desktop app that open in its own window. Your PWA can be installed from Chrome and Edge.
Get your app installed on macOS from Chrome — Progressier walks users through installing your PWA to their Docks.
Chrome OS Installation
Enjoy native PWA support for your app on Chrome OS.
Get a unique installation page for your app that promotes installation of your PWA and guides users with custom instructions for each platform.
Original Domain Installation
Due to the limitations of the platform, it's not possible to install your app as PWA from your own domain. Progressier provides an alternative custom domain for installation purposes that looks like elonmusk.installable.app.
Web App Manifest
Progressier builds a PWA manifest with your preferences set in the dashboard, with toggles and inputs instead of lines of code
A service worker is a file that continues running in the browser even after the web page that has registered it has closed. For a domain to be a PWA, it must have a service worker hosted at the root. Unfortunately, Wix does not support adding a service worker to your domain.
Cache Static Resources
This platform doesn't provide an option to modify the service worker file, so it's not possible to cache static resources.
Without full server-side control over the resources, it's not usually possible to make a site work offline entirely with a no-code app builder like Wix.
Notify all your users of news in your app with our dashboard and/or API. Progressier manages all user push subscriptions for you.
Other app builders allow you to send notifications to a particular user. It's not currently possible with this platform.
Connect User Data
With Wix, it's not currently possible to sync your user data (e.g. emails, names or account types). Bubble is the best no-code option for that.
In-App PWA Promotion
Promote installation of your PWA with a floating action button in the body of your app.
Show a custom alert when a user loses network connectivity.
Request Notifications After Installation
Progressier asks users to allow notifications right after they've installed your app, which generally results in a higher subscription rate
Install & Push Analytics
Progressier tracks installs of your Wix PWA over time. Also tracks push subscriptions.
Programmatic PWA Creation
Progressier does not allow to create Wix apps dynamically.
Google Play & App Store Upload
Since Wix doesn't allow their users to install PWAs from their own domain, it's not possible to make it available through Google Play or the App Store as a PWA.
